This 18K gold octopus brooch by Pampillonia Designs captures its subject mid-motion, eight tentacles curling outward from a domed mantle in fully dimensional relief. A finely stippled finish covers the body, while raised suckers trace the undersides of the curling tips for a lifelike, sculptural effect.
Rubies set the eyes with a rich red glint, and one tentacle grips a bright round brilliant diamond, a playful touch of fire against the textured gold.
Craig Drake offered an identical design. Pampillonia Designs also produced private-label jewelry, and the house is believed, though unconfirmed, to have manufactured this octopus for Craig Drake.
The high-polish reverse bears the 18K stamp and maker’s mark, with a secure pin and rotating safety catch. Its open form also lends itself well to pendant conversion if desired.
