This vintage Unoaerre 18K yellow gold Ave Maria medal shows the Virgin enthroned and crowned, holding the Christ Child beneath an arc of stars. A tonsured friar and a veiled nun kneel on either side of the throne, the traditional Our Lady of the Rosary composition usually read as Saints Dominic and Catherine of Siena. Gothic arches frame the scene, and "AVE MARIA" is lettered across the base of the throne.

Founded in Arezzo in 1926, Unoaerre became one of Italy's foremost gold houses. Its devotional medals are known for crisp, well-modeled relief, seen here against a softly textured ground within a polished raised rim. The plain reverse carries the hallmarks and leaves room for engraving.

A generous tubular bail fits a range of chain styles. The relief has softened gently with decades of wear, and the medal still has real presence for its scale.
