- Condition: Good estate condition with typical signs of wear; ultrasonically cleaned. Two fine edge scratches from prior acid testing as shown — not readily discernible to the unaided eye.
A substantial and well-made St. Benedict medal, crafted in Italy with the inner medallion of solid 18K yellow gold and framed in 14K yellow gold. The center bears the Italian goldsmith registration 140 AR for Nuova Jolly S.r.l., a renowned Arezzo manufacturer celebrated since the mid-20th century for its exceptional religious and figural medalwork. Known for precise die-striking and refined polishing, Nuova Jolly supplied many of Italy’s premier devotional jewelers and Vatican gift houses.
The medal depicts Saint Benedict of Nursia, holding the cross and the Rule, surrounded by the protective Latin inscriptions of the Vade Retro Satana formula. Its frame features a smooth, polished bezel and a large, articulating bail stamped 14K, allowing versatile wear on a variety of chains.
