A substantial 18K yellow gold tubogas band dating to the 1980s, attributed to Italian manufacture based on its construction, design vocabulary, and 18K gold standard — consistent with the Italian fine jewelry market of the period. At 14.3mm wide and 16.7 grams of solid 18K gold, the ring commands the finger without relying on scale alone — the architecture does the work. Two tightly wound tubogas-ribbed bands flank a central row of round brilliant diamonds, the whole composition bordered by smooth polished rails that contain and contrast the textural energy of the ribbing.
The diamonds — approximately 1.44 carats total weight, graded F color and SI1 clarity average — are well-matched and lively, set in individual prong settings along the center band and running the full visible face of the ring. F color against warm 18K yellow gold produces a clean, high-contrast look that Italian makers of this period favored deliberately.
Tubogas construction, developed and refined by Italian goldsmiths in the mid-20th century and broadly associated with Italian fine jewelry production through the 1970s and 80s, produces the characteristic tightly ribbed, coiled profile visible here. No maker's mark or country stamp is present on this example, but the construction method, design language, and gold standard collectively point to Italian origin. The non-resizable nature of the build is inherent to the tubogas technique and standard for the form. Size 6.5 fits a wide range of wearers.
A well-executed example of 1980s Italian gold and diamond work — heavy, polished, and built to wear.
